Public Consultation Process
A public consultation on the Emerging Preferred Route (EPR) closed in June 2025. Since then, the project team has been studying the feedbacksubmittedduring the consultation. Your ideas for alternative routes and concerns about the impact of the EPR have been given much consideration.
The goal is to design a route that serves as many people as possible by capturing key destinations in health, education, industry, retail and housing. But there are trade-offs. Luas Cork must serve the people of Cork and yet no line can be constructed without impacting negatively on some residents and businesses. The design process involves carefully considering these impacts, evaluating possible alternatives and assessing the benefits and impacts of every option.
We are now publishing the Preferred Routefor consultation. This is not the final route. Before we apply for a Railway Order (planning permission) we will do more work and investigate more of your ideas. Good planning is an iterative and dynamic process. Whatever we do, we will keep you informed and we will keep consulting with all our stakeholders. In the meantime, please study this Preferred Route and tell us what you think.
Have Your Say
