Paolo CarboneHead of Light Rail Capital Programmes @ TIIPaolo Carbone, an Italian railway engineer, came to Ireland in 2001 to build the first Luas lines. He has driven the development of the Luas network in Dublin which has seen a 140pc increase in passenger numbers since it first launched - from 22 million in 2005 to 55 million last year. It is a huge success and now he wants to bring Luas to Cork.
He is chair of the Light Rail Committee of UITP - the International Association of Public Transport. Paolo strongly believes in the power of light rail to enable our cities to grow sustainably. Light rail can carry huge numbers of passengers, reliably and comfortably. It is easily accessible, zero-emissions and its elegant aesthetic makes it a popular choice in historic environments. Paolo is a great champion for Luas Cork.
